MTN Mobile Money Uganda LTD has partnered with ABSA Uganda to create new functionality that will allow customers to pay for goods and services using MTN MOMO on the ABSA point of sale devices. The partnership was announced by the MD ABSA Uganda.
“This partnership changes the payment landscape as it eliminates the need to use cash as MTN Subscribers transact in their day to day activities be it restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacies and more.” ABSA’S managing director Mumba Kalifungwa said. It also enhances ABSA’s digital offering as part of their strategy is to become a digital bank Accelerating access to financial services in this pandemic. An MTN MOMO customer will be able to use the ABSA device to pay for goods and services. This partnership will increase the reach in terms of payment options and functionality.
Steven Mutana, the General Manager MTN Mobile Money Uganda commented how cashless transactions are the future of payments. “You know MOMO pay is of USSD, you don’t need a smartphone to use it. People with button phones are now included in this service where you can pay anywhere and it’s integrated into a partner’s eco system like ABSA”, he said.
Mutana also added that the service will help a lot in this COVID-19 period by reducing the need for people to hold cash to make transactions. Merchants don’t need to withdraw money to pay their suppliers because they can also use merchant to merchant pay.
“We have partnered with ABSA Uganda to encourage cashless transactions during this pandemic. You can now easily pay for goods and services directly using MTN #MoMoPay wherever you can access an ABSA Point of Sale Machine at no extra cost.” MTN Uganda Tweeted.
