Before you go on to buy that mount for your motorbike, Apple has warned that vibrations from motorcycles may affect your iPhone cameras. The tech giant has warned that high amplitude vibrations, “specifically those generated by high-power motorcycle engines” transmitted through handlebars, can damage its phones’ cameras.
Previous publications have shared experiences of people whose cameras were ruined after mounting them on a motorbike mostly for navigation. Like most of the publications, Apple’s warning also says that the damage can be permanent.
Apple went on to explain how the cameras get affected by the vibrations. The camera’s optical image stabilization (OIS) and closed-loop autofocus (AF) features can be damaged by long-term exposure to high-amplitude vibrations. OIS makes it possible for you to take clear photos while the phone is moving.
Generally attaching the iPhone to any kind of motorcycle be it scooters and mopeds is not recommended. Those who insist need to buy vibration absorbers for their iPhones to reduce the impact. Alternatively you can use other GPS devices so as not to put that costly iPhone at risk.
