DHIS2 (District Health Information System 2) is one of the most used systems in low and developing countries to support delivery of healthcare services. It has emerged as a powerful tool for data collection, analysis, and reporting, enabling evidence-based decision-making and improving health outcomes. This system design and implementation is mainly supported by HISP(Health Information Systems Programme). Some of the countries with HISP include; Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Malawi, South Africa and more. To further strengthen the capacity of health professionals in Africa, DHIS2 academies have been established, providing essential training on this innovative platform. The DHIS2 Academy program aims to strengthen national and regional capacity to successfully set up, design and maintain DHIS2 systems tailored to their local challenges.
DHIS2 academies in Africa are collaborative efforts between the DHIS2 global community and local partners, including governments, NGOs, and health organizations. These academies offer a variety of training programs designed to cater to different levels of expertise, from beginners(Level 1) to advanced users(Level 2). Participants learn how to set up and configure DHIS2, collect and manage data, create visualizations, and generate reports to inform policy and programmatic decisions.
November(2022) saw over 100 participants from 17 countries attend the Level 1 Design for Data Use academy in Uganda. In this academy, participants got to learn about the use of DHIS2 for data management and analysis, including opportunities to improve existing DHIS2 implementations in their home countries. In March 2023, over 50 participants from 23 countries attended the DHIS2 Integration Academy and 55 participants attended the Server Administration Academy in Kigali, Rwanda. The DHIS2 Integration Academy focused on a range of skills and possible approaches related to Integration patterns and principles, interoperability, standards and architecture, the DHIS2 data model and API, and the integration toolchain. The Server Administration Academy focused on Linux Server Administration, DHIS2 architecture, logging, monitoring and alerting tools, security concerns and more.
@UniOslo and HISP Rwanda are hosting the first Level 2 @dhis_2 Academy on Integration from 22 to 25 March 2023 at Sainte Famille Hotel, Kigali, Rwanda.
